What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a way of bringing attention to our present-moment experience, in a calm, spacious and non-judgemental way that allows us to "be with" even difficult and challenging experiences without losing stability and focus.Mindfulness enables us to become more fully awake and aware of all aspects of our life as it unfolds. It can help us to step out of the continuous loop of negative thinking that triggers low mood, so that we can respond more skilfully to stressful situations and enjoy and appreciate our lives more.
Mindfulness is taught as a series of simple meditation practices and daily living exercises, focusing on the breath, body, thoughts, feelings and the world around us. The practices vary in length from a couple of minutes to around 45 minutes. You will be encouraged to practise at home between sessions and make Mindfulness part of your life, and you will need to set aside time to do so. We provide CDs and workbooks to help you in your personal practice.
